Milestones: Connecting Faith and Home

Milestones are developmental markers that we celebrate throughout our lives. They are usually firsts. We celebrate the usual first tooth, first steps, first word. We also celebrate the firsts of our faith lives beginning with baptism, beginning Sunday School, celebrating communion for the first time, receiving a first Bible and more. At First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham we hope to help families connect their faith with everyday life. Growing in faith happens beyond Sunday mornings, and we seek to equip parents and children to find ways to grow at home.
Milestone events are intended to provide child and parent time together. They are either scheduled for Sundays during Sunday School or immediately following the 10am service. Each event includes a snack or meal, opportunities to meet other families, and hands-on activities to promote learning. Touch and See the Church

K-1st Graders and parents explore the sanctuary behind the scenes and learn more about worship.

Taste the Bread
|
Second Graders and their parents learn about Communion and what it means for us, and prepare to lead the congregation in communion. A cake and punch reception follows the service in Calvin Hall.

Touch the Water
|
First Graders and their parents learn about the sacrament of Baptism through multisensory activities.
|
Walk Through The Bible
|
Third graders and parents learn together about the Bible as we travel together through the biblical story. Parents present their children with a Bible (a gift from the church) in worship.
|
Worship Through the YearFourth and Fifth Grade parents and children learn about worship, the liturgical calendar, and participate in leading worship together.
