New Music Director
Position Available: Director of Music Ministries
First Presbyterian Church, Birmingham Michigan is seeking a new Director of Music Ministries to lead all aspects of our robust and energetic Music Program. The successful candidate will provide leadership to First Presbyterian Church (FPC) and it’s music program through worship planning, choir and ensemble direction, and leadership/accompaniment in weekly worship services and other services throughout the year. FPC also maintains a close relationship with “Many Voices… One Song” (MVOS) – an independent 501(c)3 organization. The FPC Director of Music Ministries will have the opportunity to work with the independent MVOS Board of Directors in the planning and execution of its annual concert series.
First Presbyterian’s music program includes 2 adult choirs, 2 children’s choirs, a Bell Choir, other instrumental ensembles, and a newly installed Nichols & Simpson Organ (4 manual, 50 stops, and 64 ranks of pipes). “Many Voices… One Song” program generally includes in its yearly series performances by the Birmingham First Chamber Choir which performs a variety of repertoire, and the Festival Choir which may perform a major choral work or selections centered on a theme.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Music (Master’s Degree highly desirable) as well as experience in choral conducting, organ performance, worship planning, and music program leadership. This person will have a strong faith within the Reformed Tradition, comprehensive Music and Choral Conducting skills, exceptional organ skills, excellent abilities in teaching individuals at all skill levels and ages, and knowledge and interest in many musical styles and traditions.
