Choirs

The Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir welcomes all adults who have a desire to raise whatever voice they have! The requirements for membership are enthusiasm, energy, and effort. Our rehearsals are as uplifting as they are challenging. We work to develop a collective sense of community that enables us to share glimpses of God’s love with one another. We sing regularly for worship services and also participate in many community concerts. Singing in the Chancel Choir is without question a major commitment, but the rewards are worthwhile in every way! We consider the time we spend together to be Holy ground. Rehearsals are held September through May on Wednesdays from 7:30-9:30 PM in the Choir Room. For further information see the choir schedule and repertoire.

Chamber Singers

The First Presbyterian Church Chamber Singers sing once a month in worship and on special occasions during the church year. This disciplines ensemble of eight to twelve singers frequently offers challenging a cappella repertoire spanning from the fourteenth to the twenty-first century. Rehearsals are scheduled as needed. Chapel Choir

The Chapel Choir welcomes all young people in grades 1-6 who desire to experience the gift of worshiping God through music. We maintain an active schedule of singing throughout the year both in Saturday and Sunday services. The Chapel Choir experience provides a warm, welcoming environment for children to explore their artistic gifts, to begin to nurture their musical skills and vocabulary, and to channel their creative energies in a fun and meaningful way! Our hope is to build young people to become leaders in the congregation.  We sing not to entertain an audience, but to offer praise to God on behalf of our families and friends.  The Chapel Choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons, September through May from 5:00-5:45 PM in the New Song Studio.  Click here see the Chapel Choir’s schedule.

Carol Choir

The Carol Choir offers its welcome to lads and lasses ages 3 1/2 – kindergarten. We gradually learn many of the fundamentals of sound choral singing in the process of learning to read music and to work together. We also begin to develop the discipline required for successful music-making, all the while having fun as we uncover new ways of offering praise to God through music. In addition to singing, we enjoy the opportunity to play together. The Carol Choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons, September though May, from 4:30- 5:00 PM in the Children’s Choir Room (New Song Studio).  Click here to see the Carol Choir’s schedule.

Trombone Choir

A unique and popular part of the music department is the presence of a trombone choir, coordinated by Ward Lamphere. The core trombone choir consists of four trombonists and a tuba, although as many as twelve have performed at one time. The ensemble performs a broad repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the present, and often performs music specially arranged by members of the group. The choir regularly leads in worship services and has been coached by guest artists like Ken Thompkins, principal trombone of the Detroit Symphony, and Maury Okun, principal trombone of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra.

First Presbyterian Church Ringers

First Presbyterian Church Ringers play our five octaves of Malmark bells and chimes. The FPC Ringers appear monthly in worship and participate in the annual Many Voices…One Song workshop. This exciting ensemble is open to adults and youth who have some ringing experience and musical background. The FPC Ringers, directed by Donna Calhoun, have coached with many leading bell clinicians, including David Davidson, Dean Wagner and Kevin McChesney.
