White Picket Fences Book Study
As we begin to work toward understanding the issues of race and white privilege, we are starting with reading groups focused on the book White Picket Fences. by Amy Julia Becker. We are inviting people not only to read the book but then participate in discussion groups. You can read about the book below and then choose to read it on your own, read it and then sign up to be put in a group, or read it and be a small group leader. Small group leaders will be provided with discussion materials.
We will have two webinars with the author on Tuesday, July 28, 7:30-9:00 PM to introduce the book and another follow up webinar on Monday, August 17, 7:30-9:00 PM after we're done reading the book. You can participate in the webinars without participating in a group.
Please purchase a copy of the book on your own. There are no copies of the book at church.
The webinar is sponsored by the Justice and Diversity Ministry of our church.

Amazon describes the book as: "Gently addressing the challenging topics of privilege and race, power and inequality, White Picket Fences is a memoir of Amy Julia Becker's growing awareness of the unequal benefits (and secret harm) she received by virtue of her white skin, Protestant heritage, education and able body."
