Music Marathon

The Many Voices…One Song

Music Marathon

Brotherhood is Not So Wild a Dream

On Saturday, March 20, Many Voices One Song (MVOS) launches a new event which propels its mission and vision with more zeal than any other in its rich history.  The first ever Many Voices…One Song Music Marathon will be held in the beautifully restored sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.   Approximately twelve hours of continuous programming will be provided for our audience– offered by children, youth, and adults from all over the Detroit Metro Area.  Among the many voices coming together for this amazing event are students from Eastern Michigan University, Oakland University, Chippewa Valley High School, Ann Arbor Youth Chorale, and Detroit Children’s Chorus.  In addition, we will hear performances by many beloved vocalists, percussionists, organists, and classical and jazz instrumentalists from our community, including Mark Stone, Marc Meyers, Jeanne Bourget, Jeremy Tarrant, Jean Schneider, Craig Scott Symons , Marina Kondo, James Taylor, Jr., Lara Alami, and MVOS’ very own Birmingham-First Chamber Choir.  The concerts are all free, and audiences may come and go as they please throughout the day.  The musicians have donated their performances, and all proceeds from the freewill offerings collected will be given to Forgotten Harvest, a local food rescue organization, and the Shelterbox, a temporary housing project coordinated through Detroit/Southeastern Michigan Rotary Club for Haiti relief.  This event brings many together to share music that will inspire us to contribute to people in need in our community and in the world.

Our theme: Brotherhood is Not So Wild A Dream is taken from a writing “On VE Day, 1945.” But the hope and spirit it represents speaks for itself.  Please come to share in the music as we dream to build and extend our community, particularly to benefit those families in need.  Come for an hour, part of the day, or all of it; it will be a special experience.  You can view and download the entire program schedule here.
