Sunday School Classes

P  A  C  T
Preparation Affirmation Confirmation Together
The middle school program is a three-year confirmation process. Sixth, Seventh and Eighth graders rotate with their age groups each week to explore and examine topics that lead to Confirmation in the Eighth grade. The third year includes additional faith exploration and service projects. They begin in worship at the 10:00 a.m. service and leave when the younger children go forward for the Time with the Younger Church.

Confirmation

All 8th graders are invited to participate in the Confirmation process. In 2006-2007, the class began September 10 and concluded with confirmation on Sunday March 25. The Confirmation program included Sunday morning classes, a series of luncheons with additional faith exploration conducted by our pastors, lock-ins, a retreat, and service projects. Each confirmand has a Covenant Partner who commits to walking with and supporting the confirmand on his/her journey throughout the year.

Deep Space
Deep Space is our high school faith education program. Youth will discuss the hard questions and difficult choices that arise in the life of faith. Issues and situations which especially impact teen culture will be central to our study. Youth will grow in their spiritual lives and gain skills for critical exploration of faith. The goal of this program is to equip youth to continue their spiritual growth and faith journey once they graduate from high school. Deep Space is taught by Youth Pastor Amy Morgan and advisors Jay and Melissa Solomond. It meets in the Cave (Room 215) Sunday mornings during the 10:00 worship service, except on Family Worship Sundays. Youth will begin in worship and will depart for class before the Time With the Younger Church.

Family Worship
One Sunday each month is devoted to family worship at the 10 o’clock service. Children and youth are invited to remain in worship through the whole service so that families can worship together. Children learn about how we worship as a whole church, and youth gain worship experience that will help them connect to our congregation. This experience is especially important for youth as they prepare to enter their adult faith walk. Being rooted in a worship tradition and connected to the larger church helps youth as they seek out new faith communities after they graduate from high school.

Youth Fellowship
Sunday
Evenings during the school year
FPC Birmingham is committed to having a vibrant youth program which includes fun, friendship, learning, and service.

This year we have a new Sunday evening format. This arrangement is designed to make our Sunday evening fellowship more welcoming, easier for families to participate in, and to foster relationships within the groups, between the groups, and within families. The program includes a monthly shared meal and classes, discussions, and activities for parents. Both youth groups will meet separately but simultaneously. We hope you’ll give this new format a try, and let us know what you think! We will continue to develop this program around the feedback we get from all the participants.

Schedule for Sunday Evenings:

5-6 - Shared meal (once a month), fellowship, free time, Guitar Group
6-6:30 - Creative time! Music, art, drama
6:30-7:15 - Games for FOCUS; TOPIC for Free Me!
7:15-8:00 - Games for Free Me!; TOPIC for FOCUS

Free Me! is our fellowship group for 6-8th graders. Dave “Dude” McLean leads the fun.

FOCUS is our fellowship group for 9-12th graders. Jay and Melissa Solomond assist in leadership.

Guitar Group will meet on Sunday evenings at 5:00 p.m. in room 212 – Joyful Noise. This group is for experts and novices alike. Come to jam, teach, learn, and make awesome music. Dave “Dude” McLean and Jay Solomond lead the band.

TOPIC (Together Ordinary People Instituting Change) is a time for discussion, prayer, study, activities, and projects that help youth institute positive changes - in their lives, their church, and their world.
