2008 Diversity Champion
FPC member, Rosy Latimore, will be honored as our 2008 Diversity Champion at The Birmingham Community House on April 17, 2008. Her many activities at FPC and throughout our whole denomination have built bridges of understanding and reconciliation. Rosy, an elder, was trained at Columbia University NYC as a multicultural facilitator. She presently serves on the Committee of Ministry at the Presbytery of Detroit, as Pastor Search chair. As an elder, Rosy has been elected to serve as a commissioner to the national General Assembly. She is a member of the FPC Evangelism Committee and serves on the Peace, Mission and Justice planning committee. Rosy has worked tirelessly to build a more inclusive and diverse community throughout the Greater Detroit Community. She served as co-chair of the Multi-Cultural Task Force within the Presbytery of Detroit and as a member of the Anti-Racism and Reconciliation Team. She has served as VP of the Michigan Black Presbyterian Caucus, where she is current Membership chair, and she chairs the Cross Cultural Alliance Ministry (CCAM). Rosy not only works effectively within the systems of the church and through many committees, she also finds time to give individual tutoring to children in need at Alcott Elementary School in Pontiac. Rosy is an inspiration and a model for all in the arena of inclusiveness, always inviting people to experience and grow in God’s Beloved Community.

The Diversity Champion Breakfast, sponsored by the Race Relations and Diversity Task Force, will be held at 8:00 a.m. April 17, 2008 at The Community House, 380 South Bates Street, Birmingham, MI 48009. Advance reservations are required.  Cost is $25. If you would like to join with us in celebration of Rosy please contact Tom Thoresen before April 8, 2008 at 248-643-8373 or thoresen@aol.com

Jazz in the Spirit
Saturday Jazz Service – Every Saturday at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary

All are welcome!!  People old and young, families, children, guests, friends, co-workers are all welcome at this shorter, more informal Saturday service.  A scripture reading, a homily and jazz music will give shape to our service.  Dress is casual – feel free to come as you are, straight from the soccer field, garden or running errands.  Legendary jazz vocalist Judie Cochill frequently leads the music, with the backing of a jazz band to inspire our worship.

Wednesday Night Live & Evening Worship
Everyone is invited to this Wednesday night meal and program every Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. in Knox Auditorium.  Join us at 7:00 for a short worship service in the Chapel.
