First Foundation was the original endowment fund of First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, MI. Established in 1981, First Foundation was created “to provide for the extension of the ministry and outreach of the First Presbyterian Church beyond its annual operating budget.”
Grants from First Foundation supported local, national, and international mission endeavors, new ministry ventures, and continuing education for church members and staff.
In 2019 First Foundation was renamed First Fund. First Fund became our general endowment which continues to serve the area and world through outreach but also assists in missions within the general budget.
First Fund allows First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham the opportunity to engage in dynamic and innovative ministry, effective and essential mission work, and significant outreach to the local and global community.
The Fund is overseen by a board of nine members and is appointed by the Session for six-year terms. This board evaluates grant requests and oversees the investment of the Foundation funds.
