Youth Ministries Purpose Statement
We are a welcoming faith community made up of children, youth and adults. We respect, encourage and support the spiritual journey of all. We are growing relationships with each other and with God as revealed through Jesus Christ.
Fellowship
Guitar Group Gears Up
Sun., Sept. 13 after the Pancake Breakfast in the Youth Room – Players of all levels are welcome to join in the jam this year. We’ll start working on songs for an opening worship service for youth fellowship. We may have many more opportunities to share our gifts with the congregation this year. Guitars are available for those who aren’t ready to commit to their own instrument yet.
Wake Up to the Word
Begins Sunday, September 20 Sundays @ 9 AM – Chris Gannon, Director of Camp Skyline and Parish Associate, willlead this gathering for Senior High youth at Java Hutt in downtown Birmingham. Drink coffee and engage in conversation about faith and life, the bible and what it says to young people. We’ll begin with a study of Ephesians, learning to “speak the truth in love.” It’s worth waking up for!
FOCUS
Senior High Youth Fellowship Begins Sunday, September 27, 6-8 p.m. – Faith, fun and friendship are found this fall at FOCUS – Fellowship of Christians United in Service. Join us for food, games, lively discussion and loving prayer each Sunday evening.
Education
Wild Word
Begins Sunday, September 13 at 10:00 AM – This gathering for all Middle School youth will meet in the Youth Room. We will explore the “Wild Truth” of the Bible in fun and interactive lessons. This year we will focus on “Dares from Jesus,” living out our faith boldly.
Deep Space
Begins Sunday, September 13 at 10:00 AM – Senior High youth are invited to gather in the Cave during 10:00 worship to explore faith and life. We’ll be guided by a variety of interactive studies.
Confirmation
Begins September 27 at 9 AM in the Youth Room – Begin a new chapter of your faith journey with Confirmation class. Youth 8th grade and older are invited to explore their faith through interactive studies, fellowship events, and an annual retreat. Contact Amy Morgan if you have questions or would like more information about this opportunity. The class will meet usually twice a month. Please keep this year’s Confi rmation Class in your prayers as their journey begins this year. Walk With Me
Begins September 27 at 9 AM in Fireside – This class is designed for parents or Covenant Partners of Confirmands, but the material will cover basics of the Reformed faith and explore ways to relate to adolescents, information that may be of interest to other adults in the congregation. If you’re struggling with how to talk to your child about faith, if you’re not sure if you can voice your own faith well enough to help your child understand theirs, or if you just want the opportunity to learn and discuss the basics of our shared faith, please join us!
Serve
Throughout the year, youth will have opportunities to be engaged with the whole congregation in mission opportunities in the Metro Detroit Area. Here is what has been scheduled so far:
