Our Education Philosophy

One definition of theology is that it is “faith seeking understanding.” As Christians at First Presbyterian Church, we are not content to merely say “I believe,” and stop there. As people of faith we believe we have a responsibility to continue the lifelong process of seeking further understanding so our knowledge of who God is and what God has done in Jesus Christ can grow. When we study together we build our community of faith and grow both individually and as a church community. Please consider attending the following classes offered throughout the week.

Third Wednesdays at 9:30 AM in Calvin Hall – All are welcome to join Presbyterian Women for the 2009/2010: Joshua: A Journey of Faith, written by Syrian-born president of the Near East School of Theology, Mary Mikhail. In the nine lessons of this study, we are invited to explore the challenging, sometimes heartrending book of Joshua. Pursuing such themes as leadership, the promise of land, the concept of “holy war,” and outsiders becoming insiders, we learn ultimately to find rest in the justice and mercy of God. Dr. John Judson will lead this series of 9 monthly lessons. All are welcome. Join us at 9:15 AM for refreshments and conversation. The study begins at 9:30. Circles and small group discussions will follow, ending about 11:30. The study guide will be available free (donations of $6 gratefully accepted). Free child care available.
